Our family does its best to go on a vacation at least once a year. Now, it’s not always something extravagant, but it’s always a chance for us to get away for a few days together to enjoy each other’s company. It gets so hard when we’re at home to spend time together. My husband and I both work, and both of the kids are involved in multiple extracurricular activities. Sometimes it feels like all we can do to make it through our days, eat a dinner, go to sleep, and wake up the next morning to do it all again. That’s why our vacations are so important to us. It definitely gets tough some years to swing it, so we do our best throughout the rest of the year to save as much money as we can for the vacation. One of the easiest ways we have found so far to save is to switch our energy providers! We’re lucky to be able to select our own based on price. My mom and I splurged on Dish Television a few years back and it’s been the reason for my late in life change in occupation. I realized one day I was watching show after show about psychology (Intervention, Hoarders, etc.) and I thought to myself “why don’t I do something with people who need my help?” So I’m about to graduate with my counseling degree and that’s making me feel like I’m finally going to be doing what I’ve been meant to do all along – I can’t wait to get started. I really wish I hadn’t wasted so much time working at school but it was a good solution when my daughter was young and I needed something flexible. I can’t wait to get started on my new career path and even though I’m pretty late in the game I’m happy to know that I’m finally going to be pursuing my calling. There’s nothing standing in the way of me and what I was meant to do and that’s really exciting to me!

Trick or treating with a baby

I know that it’s a little silly, but I still think that it was important to take my son Robbie out to do some trick or treating this year for his first Halloween. We all know that he won’t remember it and will just be able to see pictures of it. But I thought, why not? Having a baby is a big deal and I want it to feel that way.

At first I thought about not doing it, but then I thought about what a treat it would be to take my son around and let people see him all dressed up. After I thought about that, I bought a costume online with our Clear San Francisco and made plans to take him trick or treating.

My second year as a kindergarten teacher

One of the things that I always knew that I wanted to do with my life was teach. At first I thought that I wanted to teach high school, but then after a while I decided that I wanted to teach younger kids then. I volunteered with an after school literacy program and I realized that I really loved teaching kids how to read. So kindergarten it was! Now I’m getting ready to welcome my second class of kindergarteners and I think that it’s going to be so wonderful!

As a new teacher, I know that there are things I can improve upon and I went online to see if I could find some tips that I could apply to my kindergarten class for this year.
